Beautiful Ireland!
An easy ride around Dublin on the motorway to the country side an hour south/west in Kildare county to a lovely farm B&B. I've decided I'm going to sample several Farm B&B's - especially the ones with a 'welcome tea and scones' and a full Irish breakfast that involves salmon. Sheesh... (ok!) I might just really like Ireland. Already.
10 day carry on - really advised. It allowed me to change flights fast. (Thanks for the loaner Will!)
The Farm...and see the color green out there? :)
My GPS didn't have the exact location of the High Cross of Moone - in fact it's relatively hard to find and located on someones's farm. But after a couple tries asking the locals, I finally found it. Both couples asked me if I meant the 'actual' cross - or the bar of the same name. (The first guy actually gave me specific instructions to the bar, but his girlfriend came out and said 'no, she means the ACTUAL cross'.) Nice! You had to cross a rocky bridge and then park on a hidden curve and 'look for the green door' - but overall it was pretty easy to fine.
So... this is what they mean by megalithic Ireland...and I'm ready for more of it.
The entrance - carved from the rock wall
Graveyard
The High Cross of Moone - 2 different angles
A 17-ft high cross discovered in 1835 - built in the ruins of a medieval church.
Nearby, the abbey/graveyard.
After dinner in the town of Athy (delicious bread and vegetable soup), I caught a beautiful sunset back at the farm. Wowwwww.
